John Freeman

John Freeman

John Freeman graduated from University of Alberta (Edmonton, AB) in 1972 with a Master of Visual Arts (M.V.A) degree with a specialization in painting and printmaking. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts from University of Calgary with a major in art and did additional course work in sculpture at the Alberta College of Art (now Alberta College of Art + Design).

In his practice he uses a wide range of materials and technologies for sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and video. Beginning in 1975, his numerous solo exhibitions have been featured in public galleries including the Art Gallery of Alberta, the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery and the Multicultural Centre Public Art Gallery, Stony Plain, AB. He has also participated in many group exhibitions in venues across Canada including Art Gallery of Alberta, the Nickle Gallery at University of Calgary and the Yukon Arts Centre Public Art Gallery in Whitehorse, YK. He continues to mount both solo and group exhibitions. He has collaborated extensively with Lyndal Osborne over the past ten years. Freeman’s work is held in corporate, public, private collections including Art Gallery of Alberta, University of Alberta (Edmonton, AB) and the Claridge Collection (Montreal, PQ).
