Phillip Bandura

Phillip Bandura is a 2005 graduate from the Alberta College of Art and Design glass program. His work has been presented in exhibitions in Canada, Germany, Greece, Turkey, Korea and China, and he has participated in Alberta festivals such as The Works Art and Design Festival in Edmonton and Q the Arts, Calgary’s first Queer Arts Festival.

Together with two other glass-blowers, Tim Belliveau and Ryan Fairweather, Bandura founded Bee Kingdom Glass, converting a Calgary bungalow into a collective art studio, gallery and living space. Bee Kingdom produces all variety of blown glass artwork, including centrepieces, vases, chandeliers and custom wall pieces. In 2010, together with the other members of Bee Kingdom Glass, he received the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Emerging Artist Award and was named one of Avenue Calgary magazine’s Top 40 under 40.

Bandura has participated in residencies in Montreal, Turkey and Tacoma, and in 2012, he assisted in establishing Berlin Glas, Berlin’s first hot glass studio. Bandura works with a range of materials and concepts, and his art often has an element of satire and playfulness. He has completed commissions for corporate clients, including the Calgary Stampede and the Calgary Olympic Plaza Cultural District.
