Frances Du Perron

Frances DuPerron believed that “art, as a reflection of one’s inner life, has the power to communicate experiences and portray the artist’s world view. The creation of art, therefore, combines one’s own deep experiences with a more immediate sensory perception of the world.” For over thirty years, she integrated her art practice and her internal experience to develop her own creative style, allowing her to share with others the special places and contexts of her deep experiences in a manner that is open and relevant to them. She often experienced a feeling of majestic solitude in Alberta’s great wilderness areas and this is what she has tried to capture in many of her landscape paintings.

Although she held both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Alberta (earned in 1974 and 1975, respectively), Frances DuPerron took only one survey class in Art, painting throughout her life as a primarily self-taught artist. She participated regularly in juried shows at the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie (formerly Prairie Gallery) but did not make exhibition a priority. Her work is held in the collections of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie, Queen Elizabeth II Hospital (Grande Prairie), and Maple Ridge Parks and Recreation (Maple Ridge, BC), as well as numerous private collections.
