Brenda Driscoll

Brenda Driscoll earned a Bachelor of Education degree (1965) and a Bachelor of Arts degree (1974) from the University of Calgary, and completed coursework in the arts at the Banff School of Fine Arts (now the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Banff, AB), the Alberta College of Art (now the Alberta College of Art and Design, Calgary, AB), and Mount Royal College (now Mount Royal University, Calgary, AB). For almost twenty years she taught in K-12 schools in Calgary and Cold Lake, AB, and in Germany, including In-Service Courses for Calgary Board of Education Teachers in the areas of Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, and Modelling/Sculpture.

Driscoll now lives and paints on a small ranch in the foothills west of Cochrane, surrounded by a diverse, complex, interconnected environment of native grasslands, boreal forests, wetlands, the Ghost River, and the intriguing wild beings that inhabit these environs. The opportunity to explore and experience the natural environment provides inspiration for her images, which are personal statements that examine our relationship with the dynamics of nature. Deeply concerned about the continual destruction and fragmentation of the landscape, she creates work that she hopes will bring awareness to the fragility, the magic and the critical significance of conserving and protecting natural and wild places.

Her work has been shown in commercial galleries, including Kirk-Agar Gallery and Stephen Lowe Gallery (Calgary, AB), and the Kiln Gallery (Bragg Creek, AB); in public galleries and museums, including Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery (Red Deer, AB), Bowman Centre (Lethbridge, AB) and the Whyte Museum of the Rockies (Banff, AB); and in the corporate galleries of Gulf Canada and Brewster Transportation and Tours.
