John Domier

John Domier’s early childhood artistic inclinations motivated him to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Lethbridge (1975) with a major in Printmaking (Serigraphy) and a minor in Drawing and Photography. Following his graduation, he served as a member of the Print and Drawing Council of Canada and worked in television graphics and animation in Lethbridge and Edmonton for 18 years. During this time he continued making drawings and prints that explored the Alberta landscape through subtle colour abstraction and the non-objective use of colour as a geometric compositional element. Photography also serves as an instrumental tool for Domier, recording his ideas and providing sources for future works, which can take several months to complete.

Domier has received support for his work from the Canada Council for the Arts, and since his student days has exhibited work regionally in solo and group shows, including at the Lethbridge Public Library, Mount Royal College (Calgary), and more recently at the Whitecourt & District Public Library. His work is held in the collections of the University of Lethbridge, Lethbridge Public Library, and the Canada Council Art Bank, as well as in private collections in Lethbridge, Ontario, and New Brunswick.
