Alice Daley

Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Alice M (ca. 1881). Daley studied at the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts where she subsequently taught before moving to Alberta. In Edmonton, she opened a studio in the city's Williamson Block in order to devote herself full-time to making art. An active teacher and supporter of the arts in Edmonton, she served as a president of the Edmonton Art Club and was an associate member of the Alberta Society of Artists. After her death, a number of her former students formed the Daley Art Club to continue her legacy. Although short-lived, the club's notable activities included the presentation of an exhibition of members' works comprising over a hundred paintings that were displayed in the Empire Room of the Hudson's Bay Store in 1942, a year after Alice Daley's death.
