Rene Thibault

Thibault is a landscape painter of acrylics and watercolours who derives inspiration from contrasting textural patterns found in natural and human-made forms. He explores and combines these strong patterns with a sense of fine detail, and creates an appreciation of the dynamic qualities inherent in each.
Thibault’s process involves photographing elements of interest while out in the landscape or on his travels, and taking thoughtful reference photos. He considers various perspectives from which to paint, and attempts to capture rare vantage points, such as views from the air. These photos are the basis from which his paintings eventually emerge.
Thibault earned a diploma of Applied Arts from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 1969, and shortly thereafter began work in a prominent architectural firm, moving up to Art Director after a few years. In 1977, he established his own firm specializing in architectural illustration.
Thibault has exhibited his works in juried group exhibitions with the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour, the Federation of Canadian Artists, and the Society of Canadian Artists. He has also participated in juried exhibitions at the Salmagundi Club at the Centre for American Art in New York, and with the Philadelphia Water Colour Society.
