Joan Boffa was born in Camrose, Alberta in 1945 and moved to Edmonton with her family in 1950. She began painting as a hobby in 1977 and later completed two years of a Bachelor of Fine Arts program at the University of Alberta. Prior to that, she studied for two years with Edmonton artist Dell Collins. Known for her carefully-rendered close-up images of floral blossoms, Joan Boffa was featured in a number of solo exhibitions, including shows at Strathcona Place, Edmonton (1987), the Muttart Conservatory, Edmonton (1877), the Rice Gallery at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton (1988), Profiles Gallery, St. Albert (1988), Trails West Gallery, Calgary (1989), and The Front Gallery, Edmonton (1992). She was also included in several group exhibitions, including shows at the Alberta Summer Games (1987), The Fine Arts Institute, San Bernadino County Museum (1987) and the Bowman Arts Centre, Lethbridge (1990). She is represented in the collections of Home Oil, Calgary, Conklin Shows, Florida, Swiss Bank, Toronto, Alberta Government Telephones, Edmonton, Cold Lake Regional Hospital, the McMullen Gallery, University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
