Giuseppe Albi
Giuseppe G. Albi has been active in the field of visual arts since the mid-sixties and has been heavily involved in the arts in Edmonton in many different roles and capacities. He has developed a unique style of painting that uses layers of tinted gels to produce a transparent look that he describes as his trademark. Albi’s work is regularly on exhibit at Edmonton galleries, and he has participated in shows in British Columbia, Scotland and the Netherlands. In 2005, as part of Alberta’s centennial celebrations, Albi was selected to create a monument to commemorate the accomplishments of the Italian community in Alberta. This monument was donated to the province of Alberta by the Edmonton District of the National Congress of Italian Canadians and was placed on the grounds of the Alberta Legislature.

He studied at the Alberta College of Art in Calgary and l’École des Beaux-arts in Montreal before moving to Europe in 1970, where he maintained studios in London and Amsterdam. Since the late sixties, Albi has taught drawing and painting and has served as a consultant, producer and project developer for conferences, festivals and major events throughout the city of Edmonton. He is an active board and committee member for organizations such as the City of Edmonton Festivals Consortium, Edmonton Contemporary Artists’ Society, the Alberta Art Foundation, the Edmonton Art Gallery and the Downtown Business Association. He has played a foundational role in certain Edmonton arts organizations and served as the founding president of Latitude 53 Society of Artists.
