Mary Jo Major


Mary Jo Major has achieved distinction as a painter and printmaker nationally and internationally. Her work is included in many public and private collections in Canada, the United States and Europe, including the New York Public Library, the Glenbow Museum, Calgary, the Whitechapel Library, London, England, the Mendel Art Gallery, and the University of Calgary Special Collections.

Mary Jo began teaching in Victoria, Australia and from there she travelled to Aix-en-Provence, France, to study painting at the Ecole-des-Beaux Arts. After obtaining a BFA from Concordia University in Montreal she lived in London, England for a decade where she worked as a master printer for Christies Contemporary Arts and Skye Editions. Mary Jo received her M.F.A. from the University of Calgary in 1992. While residing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania she received the Maggie Malone Award for Artistic Achievement at the Canergie Melon Museum, 2001. Mary Jo currently lives and works in Calgary, Alberta.
