Geoffrey Hunter

Geoffrey Hunter has been painting abstract works in acrylic for more than 30 years, by using colour to create movement and space. For Hunter, the process of painting is archeological and begins with images found in books, manuals, science, video games and the internet. Through a series of underpainting and overpainting, adding and subtracting, canceling and editing, the final work emerges. Hunter’s most recent paintings continue the artist’s exploration of the relationship between painting and digital media through color, texture, and surface.

Hunter graduated from the Alberta College of Art + Design in 1986. In the same year, he also studied at Yale Summer School, Norfolk, CT, USA. Hunter resides in Calgary and his solo exhibitions have been featured at Paul Kuhn Gallery since 1988. He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions and was selected for the Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art in Edmonton and Banff, AB in 2007. In 2002-2003, he was featured in the ATC Biennale throughout Australia. He has works in the collection of Alberta Foundation for the Arts and in several private and corporate collections.
